Better Schools

When I wasn't sure if I would get into graduate school, I pursued a teaching certificate in New Orleans.

In the preparation I did for the standardized test, one concept really stood out: politicians love blaming the school system.

Schools are the perfect target when something is wrong in society: it sort of makes sense that if schools are bad, they would cause problems down the line, and politicians can say that schools need to be reformed, without angering anyone (except teachers).

Blaming schools is an easy cop-out to avoid dealing with issues of race and class.
