It’s safer to stay logged into your accounts

A friend of mine disconnects from all his accounts when he’s not using them (Facebook, Gmail etc.).

His thought is that this is safer. If someone steals his computer, they won’t be able to connect to anything. He doesn’t store his passwords on the computer.

The other day I was reading an email, and I followed  a link which led me to the Facebook sign-in page.

I started typing my email address when I realized “wait a minute, I should already be logged in.”

I looked up at the address bar, and sure enough I wasn’t on facebook.com

Being permanently logged in on the main sites I use protects me from phishing attempts because I know I won’t have to sign in to anything.

The need to sign in is, in and of itself, a red flag.
