Good to know if you’re an Israeli pilot
The active ingredient in Viagra (for treating erectile dysfunction) is sildenafil.
The active ingredient in Revatio (for treating hypertension) is is sildenafil.
On GoodRx, a month’s worth of Revatio costs $17.25, and the same quantity of Viagra costs $405.74.
What’s going on here? Sildenafil has two FDA approvals - one, under the name “Revatio”, for hypertension. The other, under the name “Viagra”, for - well, you know.
Meanwhile, in Israel:
The air force in Israel is considering giving pilots Viagra after seeing results of a study done by Israeli doctors.
The air force doctors want to test Viagra with jet fighter pilots at altitudes of up to 50,000 feet.
According to the Yediot Aharonot, a popular newspaper in Israel, the military said the following in a report: “The Viagra family of drugs is considered effective in these conditions because when there is a long shortage in oxygen it leads to high blood pressure in the lungs, and the drugs help fight that.”
